St. Mary’s University College is a beacon of learning, civility, and hope, inspiring students to lead with integrity and to meet the future with confidence, intellectual acuity, moral conviction, and a passion for social justice and the common good.
The original St. Mary’s College Act received Royal Assent on September 18, 1986. On June 16, 2004, St. Mary’s College officially became St. Mary’s University College and was authorized to grant its own Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees.
In lumine tuo videbimus lumen is the motto for the school and it interprets as “In your light we shall see light.” Psalm 36:9
The Salvia is a Student Academic Journal that highlights the academic work students do for their courses, such as term papers, short essays, lab reports, presentations, explications, and discussion papers. It also raises awareness of student excellence for the wider St. Mary’s community and the non-academic public. Salvia is published annually and is on sale for $5.00.
The icon complementing the name St. Mary’s is based on the letter “M” for Mary. Four qualities of Mary (simplicity, clarity, purity and confidence) are each represented by one of the four letter M’s. As these four letters are brought together, toward the centre, they begin to form a simple framework of a star that is integral to the motto of St. Mary’s: “In your light we shall see light.” (Psalm 36:9).
